Smoked Salmon Oatcake Canapes

Now that it’s December, if you haven’t already started thinking about your Christmas meals, thisis the time. Throughout December, we are going to be sharing some delicious smoked salmon recipes perfect for Christmas and New Year. We’re starting with Smoked Salmon Oatcakes Canapés. We love our cold smoked salmon on top of oatcakes. It’s such an easy and delicious appetizer perfect for special occasions - a traditional Scottish one too!

What you need:

  • Falls of Dochart Smokehouse Cold Whisky Smoked Salmon
  • Aberfeldy Handmade Oat Cakes
  • Crème fraiche
  • Raspberries
  • Blackberries
  • Chopped dill plus extra to garnish

Method

Simple and straightforward...

Step 1
Lay out as many oatcakes as you wish to serve. We recommend using Aberfeldy Handmade Oatcakes, these are made with coarse oatmeal to an old recipe which gives them such a great flavour.

Step 2
Mix crème fraiche with chopped dill then carefully spoon 1tsp of the mixture on to each oatcake.

Step 3
Slice your Falls of Dochart Smokehouse cold whisky smoked salmon into strips that are small enough to fit on the oatcakes. Top each oatcake with the strips of salmon – one strip should be enough for each.

Step 4
To finish, garnish the oatcakes with raspberries and blackberries or other fruit of your choice. Raspberries and blackberries add a little Christmas touch. Adding a twig of green dill creates the perfect balance of color...

Don’t forget to serve with a glass or champagne or a dram or two!
